In Placer County we know:
• Lack of housing is the leading cause of homelessness.
• Placer County is desperately in need of more affordable housing. It is estimated Placer County is 7,419 housing units short of meeting state requirements (RHNA requirements).
• In the 2023-2024 school year, 2,130 Placer County students qualified for McKinney-Vento support and services (for homeless youth) according to the Placer County Office of Education. In addition, families, individuals, and seniors struggle to afford housing.
• Working to create affordable housing helps meet faith organizations' obligations to mercy and justice.
Lack of Affordable Housing Impacts Physical and Mental Health, Job Growth, Education and Damages the Environment and Economy.
